The $140 million Real estate project marks historic investment in U.S. innovation of the world leader in beauty in its world number 1 market
NEW YORK, September 27, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — L’Oréal USA today announced the opening of a new, state-of-the-art research and innovation (R&I) center in Clark, New Jersey, replacing its existing facilities it has occupied in the region for more than six decades. The $140 million development project represents the largest investment in an R&I facility in the company’s history.
The new R&I Center will strengthen L’Oréal’s ability to advance the scientific and technological research behind products and services aimed at meeting the diverse beauty expectations of consumers in the United States and around the world. The R&I center will focus on beauty innovations across hair, skin and makeup categories, while being at the forefront of research in strategic science areas such as green science and technology of beauty.

The nearly 250,000 square foot research and innovation center will bring together under one roof more than 550 employees from all sectors of the North American research and innovation division, from advanced research to evaluation and product development. Agile workspaces and modular labs will be designed to strengthen internal partnerships, creating a comprehensive ecosystem that enables greater cross-disciplinary collaboration and innovation. The site will also house the ability to scale formulations through a dedicated team, which will accelerate the creation and development of new products. The R&I Center will also host external partnerships and scientific collaborations as part of L’Oréal’s Open Innovation strategy.
