Why small businesses matter

Buy small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter shines a light on local business owners who volunteer their time, talent, goods and services for the benefit of our community. The shop local movement is spreading virally as local businesses that are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You’re IT Matthew Tallett – “Man Around Town” Real Estate

Four questions to Matthew Tallett.

Why did you start your business?

I started this business because of my passion for homes, architecture, history and heritage. I’ve had a genuine interest in houses since I was a young boy and remember going through the classifieds reading the house listing descriptions and circling my favorite houses. I love architecture and design, which allows me to bring value to my clients when they enter a new space. I can help them imagine their things in a house or how to update a space to make it their dream home.

What is your best-selling product/service?

My best service is my holistic approach to bespoke real estate. From listing a home and marketing it appropriately with the right photography, staging and platforms to helping buyers find the right home even in a tough market. Building good, lasting relationships is the cornerstone of my business. It’s wonderful when customers become good friends.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I have a wonderful team of people I work with from local lenders, lawyers, architects, interior designers and designers, home stagers, private chefs and builders. I am more than happy to name them all.

– AFC Mortgage Group
– Gillian Ingraham’s lawyer
– Lawyer Lauren Mash
– Mainly Design – Interior designer
– What Clark Cooked & Fairchilds Cheese – Private Chef
– GSD staging
– Quindico Home Builders

Have you “reinvented” your small business?

I believe I have. It’s not that I’ve had to rethink my business specifically, but that I’m trying to rethink real estate as a whole. Everything is online these days and that’s where you make your first impression. Whether it’s myself as an established real estate sales manager or a listing I present, if you don’t make an amazing first impression early on, you risk being overlooked.
